The bookplate reads: "Mary Nicholl Kerr for eleven years a citizen of Claremont in abundant and constant generosity shared with this community the wealth of her informed mind an inclusive and discerning sympathy and high purpose. In appreciation and gratitude her friends have established The Mary Nicholl Kerr Foundation for the purchase of books in The Claremont Public Library Claremont, California. Manchester England November 11, 1879 - Claremont California January 30, 1936."
