Bookplate for the library of A.S. Arnold. The bookplate is in a 1915 edition of Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology. The Latin text on the bookplate reads, "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES" (in this sign you will conquer).
Bookplate from a book in the Adelphi literary society's collection. At least three bookplates (only one is shown) record this volume's travels from one library to another.
The all-male Adelphi and Gnothautii literary societies thrived at Knox College from the mid- to late 19th century. This volume was shifted from one location to another within the Adelphi Society library several times before the entire library was given to the college in the 1890s.
Albert Hurd taught both natural sciences and classical languages at Knox College from 1851 until 1906. He was one of Knox's most distinguished 19th century professors.
